CPERL Publication Alert: Mixed methods research to refine determinants and strategies for scaling PEM implementation in EI

Introduction

The publication entitled, Refining determinants and strategies to scale implementation of an electronic assessment option for family-centered care coordination in early intervention: A case study, is published on the BMJ Paediatrics Open (Special Issue). CPERL alum Dianna and current team members Lauren, and Mary partnered up with colleagues from University of Illinois Chicago and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign on this work.

This work continues to build evidence for how the Young Children’s Participation and Environment Measure (YC-PEM) e-PRO could be implemented in early intervention (EI). Specifically, this study builds on the findings from the single-site Patient-Reported Outcomes to Strengthen Partnership in the Early Intervention Care Team (PROSPECT) trial, by identifying supports, barriers, and strategies to implementing YC-PEM  across multiple EI  programs and states. EI stakeholders considered the tool as helpful and identified strategies such as flexible timelines, streamlined workflow integration, and expanded provider training to support scale-up. The findings strengthen the foundation for a planned multi-site pragmatic trial, complementing other ongoing trials.
