CPERL hosts Dr. Leanne Yinusa-Nyahkoon

CPERL hosted Dr. Leanne Yinusa-Nyahkoon, ScD, OTR, a clinical assistant professor in the OT Department at Boston University, during a jam-packed day of scholarship and solidarity. As part the day’s events, Dr. Yinusa-Nyahkoon delivered an invited presentation for the UIC OT Department’s Scholarship of Practice (SOP) Lecture Series. She shared her career trajectory, made even more engaging by her captivating story-telling ability, as she championed OT's role in the participation of breastfeeding, as an occupation, in perinatal care with diverse infants and families. CPERL and Dr. Yinusa-Nyahkoon engaged in a conversation about an active NSF funded project and were later joined by a few of the entry-level OTD students in the Children, Youth, and Families SOP Collaborative, to engage in richer conversation about her career trajectory and scholarship.

Dr. Yinusa-Nyahkoon also brainstormed creative visualization ideas to capture CPERL’s anti-racist work for the lab website to advance our agenda of creating an antiracist environment. CPERL and Dr. Yinusa-Nyahkoon anticipate re-joining forces at AOTA INSPIRE 2023 to accelerate this dialogue and build capacity around antiracist efforts for both established and rising scholars who are pursuing various career trajectories.
