CPERL Regains Speed with Conference Talks

acrm

Conference season is in full swing again, with CPERL team members disseminating on their dissertation research and broader segments of the lab's research portfolio and impact to date.

Sabrin and Vera presented for the first time on their dissertation research at the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine (ACRM) conference, while adjusting to its virtual format and all the new challenges and benefits that come with it.

Sabrin presented a research poster on the adequacy of medical home primary care and sociodemographic factors associated with educational service use among children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). She co-authored this poster with her dissertation committee members from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Augusta University, and Mary Khetani as Sabrin's primary postdoctoral mentor.

Vera presented on her first dissertation aim, a scoping review on the use of artificial intelligence in rehabilitation interventions targeting child and youth participation, co-authored with her dissertation committee members Mary Khetani and Natalie Parde and colleagues Mina Valizadeh and Zuri Salgado. Soon thereafter, Vera, Mina, Mary, and Natalie presented a mini-symposium at the American Academy for Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Medicine (AACPDM) conference and facilitated an inspiring discussion on smart ways to advance technology-based interventions like the Participation and Environment Measurement (PEM) approach.

Following their lead, Mary took to the international conference stage twice to deliver invited talks on segments of our collective discoveries as a lab to date. While also adjusting to their virtual format for these venues, the experience of narrating our team's efforts to use science for upgrading pediatric practice in broader terms was deeply satisfying.
