Pediatric Rehabilitation Poster Award

This was an exciting year to be at the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine (ACRM) in Atlanta!

CPERL's own Jessica Jarvis went center stage to accept the Pediatric Rehabilitation Research Poster Award on behalf of the international Wee-Cover team that CPERL collaborates with to examine mechanisms of functional recovery in pediatric critical care. For this year's ACRM conference, Jessica took the lead in presenting a poster on the team's work, titled "Determinants of Change in Home Participation Among Critically Ill Children."

For Jessica, this award reflects a rewarding interdisciplinary research collaboration, led by Dr. Karen Choong at McMaster University, as well as the support and feedback provided by the CPERL here at UIC as she prepared the poster and practiced her presentation prior to attending conference.

"It's an honor to be recognized by ACRM for our work, and it was a privilege to present the poster during the conference's moderated grand rounds," said Dr. Jarvis. "For me, this award highlights that there is a need for building our knowledge regarding children's recovery following critical illness, and that those in the field of rehabilitation are searching for a better understanding of factors that may impact children's recovery, including their participation in everyday activities. It's very encouraging as we proceed with next steps in this work - which includes getting our revisions together to resubmit this manuscript in time!"
