Progress and Planned Action for an Anti-Racist CPERL
It has been about one year since CPERL published its second article in building an anti-racist research culture for the Association for Women in Science magazine. Our efforts to advance as an anti-racist research lab this year continues, as we have seen progress to our action plan. For example, we have seen progress in Rule 4, by reconnecting and inviting CPERL alumnus Christina to create the final three illustrations needed for a YC-PEM upgrade. As another example, we also made progress in Rule 5, in which Mary recruited her colleague Leanne to co-author a textbook chapter with student members of their respective teams.
To progress in Rule 10, each lab member has created an anti-racist goal that is reflective of our action plan as well as our lab's scope of work. Some of these goals include supporting new lab members in their transition to CPERL or following a rubric to intentionally recruit BIPOC applicants. We will continue to progress our personal goals by regularly doing individual and group check-ins during lab meeting once each month.
