Publication Alert: Natural language processing to classify PEM data on caregiver strategies for promoting child and youth participation
Congratulations to CPERL alumna Vera and their interdisciplinary team for publishing an article for a special issue in the Journal of Healthcare Informatics Research. This study aimed at applying natural language processing to develop and identify a best performing predictive model that classifies caregiver strategies into participation-related constructs, while filtering out non-strategies, and was completed as a part of Vera's PhD dissertation. This study was undertaken using data from caregivers of school-aged children and youth, and completed in parallel with a similar study using data from caregivers of young children that will be presented on at the 100th American Congress in Rehabilitation Medicine conference this Fall. Ivana's honors capstone project is a logical next step in this growing body of research, to strengthen model performance by manually classifying a new dataset comprised of over 4,000 caregiver strategies within different populations and service contexts. Please consider attending the UIC Honors College Research Symposium on November 13th at UIC Student Center East from 2-4PM to see Ivana present on her capstone project!
