Publication alert: Second Scoping Review on Participation Assessment in Pediatric Re/habilitation using AI

frontiers journal

CPERL team member, Vera, takes the lead in serving up her second scoping review from her dissertation, now published in Frontiers in Rehabilitation Sciences, and included in their special research topic on artificial intelligence for human functioning and disability. This second scoping review focused on how the construct of participation is captured and operationalized in pediatric re/habilitation using artificial intelligence. Based on the 21 (of >3400) articles included, results show emphasis on observational approaches to assessing for participation, differences between intended versus actual data capture, and lack of approaches including the caregiver and child/youth perspective. Vera co-authored this review with mentorship from four members of her interdisciplinary dissertation committee (Parde, Anaby, Boyd, and Khetani) and opportunity to collaborate with and mentor colleagues, Mina, Zuri, and Julia.

Taken together, both of her scoping reviews for her dissertation help to understand current gaps in assessment and intervention for participation-focused pediatric re/habilitation. They also roll out the carpet for approaching future scoping reviews, one of which is being led by Sabrin and already in preparation. Stay tuned to see what we scope out next!
