PROSPECT Trial Enrollment Complete

PROSPECT

As the Spring semester comes to an end, so does the PROSPECT trial, an interdisciplinary research project examining the effectiveness and scalability of implementing the Young Children's Participation and Environment Measure (YC-PEM) into early intervention (EI).

This community-based pragmatic trial was IRB approved in April 2020 and midst the start of a global pandemic. As a testament to our 7-year long research partnership with Rocky Mountain Human Services (RMHS), we chose to proceed with data collection and worked effectively together to troubleshoot issues that has led to us exceeding our projected enrollment!

Zuri continues to optimize participant retention through the follow-up data collection phase.

Marlene is working diligently to prepare the dataset for main analyses during our no-cost extension phase while also embarking on her innovative honors capstone project that employs a subset of these data to examine service plan quality.

Sabrin, Julia, and Vera have co-led the second project aim, a mixed-methods study that they will be taking on tour through a series of poster presentations starting this week, while helping to prepare the full-length 'monstrous' manuscript for submission soon. Julia's honors capstone project was nested within this mixed-methods study, and reflects on her experience: "It has been such a great experience being a part of this trial and being able to focus on families, specifically for my capstone. My goal is to use the knowledge and experience I've gained by being a part of this project as I pursue my OTD in the Fall."

RMHS has indicated their intent to adopt the YC-PEM, based on the research evidence they helped to generate and that lab members proudly summarized via a tip sheet that was shared with their leadership as a KT product to support decision-making. Mary has referenced the success of this research partnership during communications with colleagues abroad, anticipating a greater ripple effect in terms of uptake internationally.
